We do not have an estimate for the total number of black Caribbean people living with HIV in the UK as we do not know the number that are undiagnosed.

In 2010 there were 2,068 black Caribbean people in the UK living with a diagnosed HIV infection and accessing HIV care.

How has this been changing over time?

The number of black Caribbeans living with a diagnosed HIV infection and accessing HIV care in the UK has increased from 672 in 2001 to 2,068 in 2010.  This is a three-fold increase which is similar to the overall increase in the number of people accessing HIV care in the UK over the same period of time.

In 2010, 70% of all black Caribbeans living with a diagnosed HIV infection in England were resident in London, making black Caribbeans less widely distributed through the UK than other people living with HIV.

How many black Caribbeans living in the UK are diagnosed with HIV each year?

In 2010, 197 black Caribbeans were newly diagnosed with HIV in the UK. These accounted for about 3% of all new diagnoses.

How has this been changing over time?

The number of new HIV diagnoses among black Caribbeans increased significantly between 2001 and 2003 with a peak of 308 in 2003.  Since then the number being diagnosed has been declining.
